The Greco-Persian Wars

In the quest for continuous expansion, the Achaemenid Empire clashed with the Greeks as well in the first half of the 5th century BC. At the end of the war, after several battles, the Greeks emerged victorious. They defended their civilisation which, evolving further, became the inspiration and source of western culture.
The defeated Achaemenid Empire, however, started to fall apart. This was the
first clash between the Eastern and Western civilisations.
